Aerospace-Grade Fiber Solutions
Conneaut’s primary aerospace material is fiberglass — inert, flame/smoke compliant, and widely
specified in aerospace wiring systems. Aramid and polyester complement fiberglass within cable constructions,
each serving a distinct functional role.
Fiberglass
Primary Aerospace Material for Wiring Protection and
Conneaut’s largest aerospace product. Fiberglass is chemically inert, meets stringent flame and smoke requirements, and is the go-to material for insulation and wiring protection across commercial and defense aerospace cable systems. Supplied as precision-wound packages in a variety of denier and package formats.
- Inert — no chemical reactivity
- Meets aerospace flame & smoke requirements
- High dielectric strength for electrical insulation
- Wiring protection & cable insulation systems
Aramid
Strength Members & Wear Resistance
Used within aerospace cable constructions as a strength member and wear-resistant element. Aramid provides the tensile load-bearing capacity needed in wiring cable strength and tension members, and resists abrasion in routing environments where cables are subject to vibration and movement.
- High tensile strength for cable strength members
- Excellent wear and abrasion resistance
- Wiring cable tension & strength member applications
Polyester
Fatigue Resistance in Cable Systems
Polyester’s defining role in aerospace cable constructions is fatigue resistance — maintaining performance under repeated flexing and mechanical cycling across the service life of wiring systems. Consistent denier and low moisture regain make it a reliable filler and binder in multi-fiber cable builds.
- Superior fatigue resistance under repeated flex
- Minimal moisture regain (<0.4%)
- Consistent denier across production runs
- Cable fillers, binders & wrapping yarns
Multi-Fiber Constructions
Combined for Cost and Performance Requirements
Fiberglass, aramid, and polyester are frequently used together within a single cable construction — each contributing a specific performance property. Conneaut supplies all three materials in matched package formats and twist specifications, simplifying procurement for multi-fiber cable designs
- Fiberglass → flame/smoke protection & insulationx
- Aramid → wear resistance & tensile strength
- Polyester → fatigue resistance & cable fill
- All three available from a single qualified supplier
Applications
Wiring & Cable Applications
Conneaut yarns are specified within aerospace wiring systems, cable constructions, and
sensor/control wiring — providing protection, strength, and long-term reliability across airframe and
avionics applications.
